2023 Pennsylvania Chapter Board Member Elections!

Be a part of the future of the IAFN and the Pennsylvania chapter! Here is a rundown of the open positions. We would love to hear from you regarding what position you might be interested in. We would also love to tell you all about our personal experiences. Click on the Officers tab above and click on a name for their email address.
The time frame for the roles are also described below, and the only criteria is that you maintain your IAFN and PAIAFN Chapter membership during the time you are in the role.
You will be expected to attend quarterly chapter meetings as well as Chapter Board meetings every other month, all of which last about an hour. There are additional monthly chapter officer round tables that the IAFN hosts that are optional but encouraged. Please let any of the other Board members know if you have any questions.
President Elect (3-4 years total term)--serve in a role to learn to fill the role of president in year 2 (and possibly year 3) of the term, with a final year as the immediate past president, fill in for the president in their absence, represent the chapter, oversee chapter and board meetings.
Treasurer (2 year term)--responsible for all chapter finances, quarterly finance reports, bill paying, basic information submission for taxes.
Media Director (2 year term)--website maintenance, assist with social media postings, assistance with other media needs of the chapter.
Education Director (2 year term)--oversee educational initiatives sponsored by the chapter, oversee selection of scholarships awarded by the chapter and sharing of other educational opportunities, oversee a committee who helps with the planning of educational activities We may look at having two individuals share this role.

Events and News for the PA IAFN Chapter

PAIAFN will be hosting an in-person training for providing courtroom testimony to forensic nurses. We are excited to host the evenet at the Conference Center on the grounds of Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center:

Wednesday, October 4, 2023 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

This three-hour program will discuss the crime of alcohol and drug-facilitated sexual assault (AFSA/FSA) and its impact on victims, law enforcement, and society. The challenges of this crime include the many different drugs that are used, the reporting of the crime, proper evidence collection, and the analyses of specimens collected from alleged victims. Strong, central nervous system depressants are typically used to commit DFSA and focus will be on their effects on and how these drugs create difficulties in the investigation.

This activity has been submitted to the International Association of Forensic Nurses for approval to award 2 contact hours. To receive a CEU certificate, participants must be present for the entire webinar and complete a course evaluation.

On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m, the PA Chapter of the IAFN, in coordination with the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR), will be hosting a meeting for Pennsylvania SANE program coordinators (or their designees). Click for more details.
